British Columbia Saltwater Exploration Trips
Cruising in the Hogg Tide a 22ft Custom C-Dory - The VW Van of the sea.
APRIL & JUNE 2026 - Dates Coming SOon
In British Columbia, the saltwater wilderness is alive—whales, porpoises, seals, sea lions, sea birds, rocky shorelines, and tides that breathe life into everything. The saltwater exploration trips are built around embracing that world from the “Hogg Tide”, letting each day unfold according to what the ocean serves up.
These trips are about far more than just fishing. We’ll anchor in quiet estuaries, tuck behind islands, cook incredible fresh meals, and explore shorelines that feel untouched. Some days may include visits to natural hot springs, wildlife viewing, or navigating narrow channels. Every day is different, shaped by weather, tide, and opportunity—and that unpredictability is the magic.
When I bought the Hogg Tide in 2022, I didn’t plan to use it for charters. I simply wanted to personalize my boat and create memorable experiences for myself and my friends. Over time, those trips became too good not to share.
These trips are extremely limited—just me and two guests. Time is finite, and the boat is small, so I choose quality over quantity. This isn’t a luxury charter. It’s hands-on, close-quarters, raw coastal exploration. You’ll help with fishing, prawning, crabbing, and general boat operations. You’re not being catered to—you’re part of the crew. If that appeals to you, you’re likely the exact type of person these trips are meant for.
My Boat is a 2004 22’ft C-Dory with Twin Honda 50 HP outboards. It’s equipped with top-of-the-line Garmin XSV 1243 (front) and 943 (rear) electronics, Radar, Scotty downriggers, Cobra Marine Radio, Garmin InReach, Starlink Wifi, Diesel heater and campertop canvas. My traps for both prawning and crabbing are cleverly rigged, conveniently stowed and customized. My boat and fishing equipment are well-maintained and cared for and everything has a system and everything has a place. I’ve put a lot of time and thought into the setup and systems, which are constantly evolving and improving. The Hogg Tide has lots of well-thought-out custom add-ons, which make this boat excellent for these types of trips.
This is not your typical West Coast charter. I care not for “getting limits” or ‘tubbing out'. I LOVE crabbing and prawning, exploring, collecting sea cucumbers, trolling for salmon, jigging for bottomfish, beachcombing, and spearfishing. Will we catch fish? l can’t promise anything, but most of the time I’m pleased with my take. What I can promise is a unique and authentic ocean experience with great eats and fresh seafood. I’ve been to a lot of places and fished for a lot of things and if I’m having fun, I would imagine that you will too.
Whether we’re harvesting dinner, watching humpbacks feed, or chasing the first Chinook of the season, these trips offer a raw, immersive connection to the Pacific. If you’re interested, reach out and we’ll chat to see if it’s the right fit.
